Funny thing... I'd rescued my four family members and beat Monty at his hideout. I didn't have any Mendoza brothers running around. But a seemingly random Royal Galleon shows up with the label I've used in the topic. I went ahead and attacked, and it was really just like any other random Treasure Galleon. I wonder why the odd label.

I look forward to the forums because it gives opportunity to fellowship with people of similar interest - in this case "Pirates" and stories/history of pirates.

You didn't expect evil to stop did you? :) Especially when it would not give you a chance for 5,000 cash and another 1800 for the ship prize!!!

I've only seen Flag Galleons. You must be wrong, cause neither Royal Galleon nor Treasure Galleon is a warship. And what so evil can be about a trader? Have you got a screenshot?

Excuse the resurrection of a long-dead thread (and a long-dead poster!!!) but I am playing Pirates through again for old times' sake and I encountered the legendary "Evil Spaniard" and had the wherewithal to get a screenie:

Ship: Flag Galleon
Bounty: 5,000 gold
Captain: generic Spanish military captain

So I would surmise this is Monty's ship, without Monty. Bizarre.

When you got full plan of Monty's hideout (but not knock Monty yet) and meet beautiful daughter, so even if you handle her PERFECTLY you do not get nothing but wanted criminal. (I expected Lost city map, but....)

Slip de Garcon - right, this occurs when Monty's ship is sailing around when you defeat Monty at his hideout. The ship remains, but "Monty" gets replaced with the generic "Evil Spaniard" for the remainder of the game until you attack the ship.

I see! I had indeed recently defeated Monty at his hideout, so that makes sense.

I tried to get this intentionally and succeeded. If you have three pieces of Monty's map and attack his hideout while he is sailing, the captain becomes a nameless (but EVIL!) Spaniard. Unfortunately your reputation with the Spanish takes a beating if you slay this evil-doer whereas taking the ship from the Marquis has no consequences.

Odd. Monty being Spanish (as well as all other Evil Spaniards) _should_ ding your reputation with the Spanish, regardless. Usually, however, by the time you take out Monty, your reputation with the Spanish is so good or so poor, you really don't see the change.
