I like the last one. I think we can all agree on character (visual) customization

One thing i think they should have is that all ships are individual, so say to geta brig, they would set a four knot window for max speedsay and the max speed for thatship is a random number inside that window. They should also use the window for manuverability, crew sis cargo size and gun number.

Hello all,
This may go against the grain of Pirates!, but I'd like to see a mod of Pirates! in which the player can play the role of a Governor; a Governor who can manage his town's growth, fight off Indian and Pirate attacks as well as Foreign invasions, and take some of his colonists and found new towns. And when successful, can be granted (and / or pay for) additional battalions and squadrons of infantry, guards, and cavalry so as to take over foreign cities, Pirate havens and carve out your domain for the home country; by taking all the towns on an island for example, or "conquering" all of Panama or what there is of South America. In other words, to play one of the nations as we currently do a Pirate- but with all the extras. I wonder what the chances are of this?

I like that idea quite a bit. Perhaps once you are done bein a pirate, and if you retire with the profession of Governor, you could continue playing with that character as a governor, doing all the things you have listed.

I know next to nothing about game design (although I wish I knew where to look to get a start on learning how), but it sure seems to me that only minimal changes would need to be made to the Pirates! game engine to make it workable; unless everything else was "hard coded" (I think that's the term. But I would like to see it possible to simply start a game as a young man who is a governor with the ability to expand his nation's holdings in the new world. Perhaps the AI could be set in such a way that the more successful you are, the more likely it would be that the Pirates and Indians attack you, or that the other nations ally and declare war on you. Frankly, I'm surprised that something like this has not already been done; the game has been out longer than, for example, Rome: Total War, and there is a massive game mod on that (Rome: Total Realism) that has been out for a long time now. I think though, that the individual unit sizes are actually not battalions and squadrons, but probably companies and troops.

I like the governor idea, but it would also be cool if whatever profession you end with, you can start working in that field. For example, if you ended as a pickpocket, you could sneak around towns and knock out guards at night and take their wallet.

Also, this should be stickied.

you can play as long as you want, as long as you dont divide the plunder. I should really like to see that the character participate more in town ransackings and ship boarding. And that you start on the "bottom", and need to work your way up to become a captain.

All of those are great idea I have considered before.

1. For the fist idea I think it would be a lot of fun, although it may be hard to do while playing the game it would still be possible.

2. I think the controling multiple fleets is also a great idea. With this you could acomplish more tasks at once, so you could be at more than one place at the same time. For example you go to take over Villa Hermosa, while your doing that you could send a fleet to Vera Cruz and hope for their success.

3.I think that would be great if it was as an option when you start the game.

4. Create your own ship would also be a good idea to customize ships like the real pirates got to do, would be amazing.

5. This feature I would really want, I wanted to make my pirate look much different then the one you started out with.

I also like the idea that people mentioned is that controlling your life after you retire, so you can carry on the game untill death.

Another feature I would like is if you could train your crew or buy better crew men so you have an advantage, and also your crew that stay survive longer get more experience and upgrade and become stronger.

I like all those ideas. I have a couple of my own to add.

1) Be able to buy ships. The costs should be outrageous, and the naval versions would not be available.

2) Land combat ala the Total War series. Cuthroats had this, and I liked it much better than the turn based combat of Pirates. In Cuthroats control went as far as being able to control one pirate or all of them. Ramsacking a town was based more on skill than necessarily numbers (much like ship combat).

3) Fleet battles. Be able to pick out two or three ships from your fleet to battle another fleet's two or three ships.

how about being able to buy all ships, but naval versions illegaly, for absolutely skyhigh prices (like half a mil for a large frigate, 1mil for a SOtL).

Sounds like a good idea to me. That way it would encourage folks to take one by pirating instead, but still if they try hard at saving gold they could buy one.

Yes, I think it is strange that you cant buy any ships in SMP.
